FEATURED PROJECT: USACE Cougar Dam (Gate 1) Retrofit
Thompson Metal Fab fabricated multiple structures associated with the Gate 1 retrofit at Cougar Dam. Scope of supply included: End Frames w/ Trunnion Hubs, Trunnion Yokes, Gate Rib Stiffeners, Guide Rollers, Staff Gauges, Wire Rope Attachment Hangers, Hoist Platforms, and Maintenance Platforms.
Two welding codes were followed on this project: AWS D1.1 for all hoist/maintenance platforms, AWS D1.5 for all gate structures. Many of the gate structures also required use of FCM materials and welds.
All paint was applied by TMF and our AISC P1 certified shop. Two primary USACE specified systems were used: 5-A-Z for all gate structures, 21-A-Z for the hoist/maintenance platforms.
Major assembly of the new hoists was also performed by TMF. The hoist manufacturer supplied all the parts/pieces and provided an on-site representative to oversee the assembly of their equipment to TMF’s fabricated platform at TMF’s shop.
