FEATURED PROJECT: Point Thomson Service Pier
Point Thomson Service Pier
The first part of the decade saw ExxonMobil take large strides in the development of the Point Thomson site in the North Slope of Alaska. In support of this development, Thompson Metal Fab was contracted for the fabrication of the service pier which is part of the ‘over-water’ dock at the site. In total, (12) bridge girders were fabricated, with studs shot on the top flange, and pan-decking installed on top of each assembly. Other fabricated units included the Bollards and Pile Caps.
From start to finish, it only took TMF a few months to fabricate the girders and complete the assemblies, despite the project specifications. Materials were required to be “low-temperature” (CVN tested for -50F) and were partnered with very technical weld requirements. In addition, unique galvanizing requirements limited all hot-dip galvanizing to one facility out of Los Angeles, CA.
This project totaled 450,000 pounds of fabricated steel. All loads were shipped by truck and direct to the jobsite at Point Thomson.
Project Highlights
-Use of Low-Temperature (-50F) materials
-Galvanized in Los Angeles to meet unique galvanizing requirements
-All loads shipped direct to job-site (Point Thomson, AK)
