FEATURED PROJECT: Bechtel/SONGS Reactor Vessel Package Canister Assembly Project

BECHTEL/SONGS REACTOR VESSEL PACKAGE CANISTER ASSEMBLY PROJECT

To assist in a decommissioned nuclear reactor project, Thompson Metal Fab supplied a Nuclear Reactor Containment Canister to SONGS for transportation and burial on the US east coast.  The fabricated components were a 277,000 lb Canister, 166,000 lb Lid and 100,000 lb Cradle Support Assembly. The canister and lid were fabricated out of 2” and 3” THK high strength carbon steel plate. The canister measured 18’ Diameter x 36’ L.

The completed canister was transported from our Vancouver, Washington facility by ocean going barge, to an off-loading facility at the US Marine base, Camp Pendleton, California. Final delivery was made with use of heavy hauling equipment to SONGS facility.
